
As you can see in the pictures below, this work went through quite an interesting development. The initial sketch was made without any particular figures in mind: I simply wanted to put colours on paper and see how I could work with that. Unfortunately, I didn’t take any pictures of the progress, but I remember starting out with my eyes closed, listening to music and scribbling on the paper. I started making figures such as the eye with markers, drew Lucy’s face with coloured pens and added the yellow wave at the top with watercolours. Later on, I covered this all with a thin layer of white paint, but I left the top of the wave, the face and the centre of the eye uncovered. From here I started to define Lucy’s posture with crayons and created the facial features with a pencil. Eventually, I added all the leaves to make it look like she was resting within a luscious oasis. To finish it all, I added the golden dots with paint.
